Games being sold out is a common occurrence, when it comes to hard copies at least — it’s less common when it comes to digital copies, and yet that is exactly what’s happened with Final Fantasy XIV. Not only that, but players in North America are unable to create new characters as well.
The well-known MMORPG developed by Square Enix has been available for around a decade, and holds the record for the highest number of simultaneous users connected on Steam.
Kotaku reported that many players could not acquire Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition, — a version that includes both the base game and all the expansions and additional content — and were instead being redirected to a waiting list by Square Enix.
Final Fantasy XIV Online is available on PlayStation 4 and PC.
