The dataminers who predicted an Among Us-inspired game mode in Fortnite have proved to be correct, with the mode being added in Patch 17.40.
Entitled Imposters, eight players take on the role of Agents tasked with maintaining The Bridge, the nexus of the IO's power. However, there are also two impostors, whose mission is to take it down.
Who will succeed?
Agents
According to Epic Games, Agents of the Imagined Order must protect The Bridge, by completing various tasks.
These include calibrating chests and llamas, repairing the Battle Bus, and delivering Storm reports for analysis.
As Agents, your task is also to try and weed out the impostors.
Impostors
The Impostors' task is the opposite - disrupt the IO Agents and take control of The Bridge. To do this they can do the following:
Disable Assignments will temporarily freeze the progress of all Assignments, affording you time to complete your mission.
Teleport Players will relocate all Agents, helping you cover your tracks.
Finally, Peely Party turns everyone into a Peely, for the ultimate disguise!
Queue and communication
Players can join Imposters in groups of any size, with free spaces filled automatically. Public voice chat will be disabled, but group chat is still available. Players must use emotes and the quick chat menu to communicate with other players.
If you'd rather play only with your group of friends, you can select the "Private" option when queuing to start a custom game with a minimum of four players. For the best experience though, ten is recommend.
Games with four to seven players will only have one imposter, while games with eight or more players will have two. You can also change your party settings by selecting the gear icon in your friends list to:
- restrict joining to invites only (Private).
- allow friends and their friends to join your group (Friends Only).
- allow anyone to join your group (Public).
The Vote
As in Among Us, you can instigate a vote using Force a Discussion to discuss matters at hand. To do this, find an eliminated Agent and report it, or interact with the Discussion panel in the central room of The Bridge.
At the end of each chat, Agents and imposters can vote to kick someone out of The Bridge or approve the vote in that chat.
