Scheduled for November 8 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, Skull and Bones invites players to seize their chance during the second age of piracy, in order to rule the seas and seize the incredible riches by fire and iron.
World background
The first trailer, located above is named World Context. As its name suggests, it gives some basic information about the period and the geopolitical situation in which Skull and Bones takes place. For once, the action does not take place in the Caribbean, but in a much larger region, the Indian Ocean. It is an area of great importance, since it is used to transport precious goods from China, India, and Indonesia to Europe. This includes silk, porcelain and of course, spices. The first corporations emerged at this time, such as the various East India companies of the great powers. The most famous is certainly the Dutch East India Company, which at the height of its power, had more than 160 ships, including 40 large armed ships, and 150,000 employees. It therefore had a more powerful war fleet than many European powers. Suffice to say that they are formidable adversaries, even for the most ambitious pirates.
Ship as a Fortress
Although Ubisoft presents this video as a "gameplay trailer", it doesn't actually have a single second of it, which doesn't really inspire confidence for the sequel. If the developers do not yet dare to show real naval battles, nor collisions, there is good reason to worry. Instead, we're treated to a montage based on very brief snippets of cutscenes and animations, which show the various ship customization options for players. This includes different pieces of artillery, like cannons, mortars, ballistae, flamethrowers, even historically questionable weapons that look like torpedoes. The ship can also be reinforced with a wide range of hull reinforcements, so that you don't end up underwater too quickly. The cosmetic aspect is not forgotten either, with different color schemes, patterns for the sails, as well as figureheads.
