This is the 65th year that the Grammy Howards , a famous American musical event, have taken place, but this year will be a special edition since it will offer a category " Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media Category " (Category Best Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media).
The video game composers finally rewarded
The Recording Academy, which presents the Grammy Awards, announced the creation of this category last June, after years of lobbying from video game company executives as well as composers in the industry.
"It's a huge opportunity because there's so much music created and consumed in video games. I think there's probably as much music in video games as there is in film and television – or even combined. C "So this is an opportunity to reach an underserved and underrepresented group of music creators that, until now, we haven't paid attention to. The numbers are huge and there are so many truly creative and talented people who work in this environment that we felt it was really important to make sure that we honored their work." explains Harvey Mason Jr, CEO of the Recording Academy.
Indeed, game music has become, over the last two decades, a huge part of the musical landscape. For the record, video game musical themes could be awarded Grammys in the film and television music category since 1999. Only one game has been nominated since: the wonderful soundtrack of the no less wonderful Journey , in 2012.
Category nominees
Over 70 original compositions have been shortlisted for the Grammy Awards. However, we will have to wait until November 15 to find out the list of musical themes (and composers) nominated in the new category. One of the nominees will win the first-ever Grammy "Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media Category".
