Shorter program promise not respected, incessant advertisements and other problems, remarks have been made about this new edition of The Games Awards. With a show lasting over 7 hours , there's a lot to be said for the ceremony that crowned Elden Ring game of the year but what Geoff Keighley (host of the show) decided to remember are the numbers and it what is it!
A historic edition for the Game Awards
Yesterday Geoff Keighley published an image to celebrate the figures of his new edition of the Games Awards and there is enough to bring out the champagne since no less than 103 million spectators launched the stream to see who would win the different titles. This figure is not trivial since it represents an increase of 20% compared to last year's figures, a big growth therefore for the event which for the first time exceeds the bar of 100 million viewers.
Geoff took the opportunity to share the figures from previous years for comparison:
The recipe for success at The Game Awards?
The success of this edition is not really surprising, indeed many Internet users were eagerly waiting to know who would win the rivalry between Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok and ascend the throne.
However, this is not the only reason, indeed we can attribute part of this increase to announcements expected during the ceremony, the best example being Final Fantasy XVI, eagerly awaited by players, a trailer seemed obvious and therefore attracted fans.
The biggest element of boost for this edition could still be located well elsewhere and it is Geoff Keighley himself who talks about it on Twitter: Steam.
Indeed throughout the event Steam Decks were offered as a giveaway to people with the stream on. According to Geoff, no less than 10 million viewers came to the stream via Steam, so a good publicity stunt.
