After being revealed at E3, Gears 5 will head to our machines on two occasions for a limited time.
These stress tests were was announced via a short press release, which also detailed the technical specifications needed to run the game.
For Xbox One owners, the test will be available to all Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, as well as those who preordered the game digitially via the Xbox Store or physically from certain retailers.
For PC players, the test can be accessed to those with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Game Pass for PC membership. Those who preordered the game digitially via the Windows Store will also be eligible.
The technical specifications needed to run the test on PC are as follows:
The test will be divided into two phases:
- 10:00 PDT on July 19 to 10:00 PDT on July 22.
- 10:00 PDT on July 26 to 10:00 PDT on July 29.
Particpants will be able to pre-load the game from July 17, with the download being around 15 GB.
Three modes will be available over two multiplayer maps for the test, as follows:
- Arcade: what Microsoft are describing as 'a new approachable, frenetic Versus experience'.
- Escalation
- King of the Hill
Also available will be two new features:
- Bootcamp: a training mode that allows players to test their skills and learn new mechanics.
- Tour of Duty: a mini version of the Tour of Duty, where players will earn Medals and unlock special Tester Weapon Skins that transfer into the full game. Players who complete all three medals will also receive an exclusive Tester Banner to show off when the game is released.
Players on Xbox One should remember that as the Gears 5 Technical Test is online multiplayer they must have an Xbox Live Gold subscription (or the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) in order to play online.
