Although still mysterious, the Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5 are being revealed little by little thanks to leaks and inside reports.
This time, it's Windows Central who are detailing potential information on the technical features of Microsoft's next machines, codenamed Lockhart and Anaconda. These represent the two models that will likely go on sale, equivalent to the Xbox One S and One X models of this generation.
Xbox Lockhart
- Computing power: 4 teraflops
- CPU: 8 cores at 3.5GHz
- RAM: Unknown
- Hard disk: NVMe SSD (proprietary technology)
Xbox Anaconda
- Computing power: 12 teraflops
- CPU: 8 cores at 3.5GHz
- RAM: 16GB (13GB guaranteed for games, 3GB on OS)
- Hard disk: NVMe SSD (proprietary technology)
Already mentioned by Phil Spencer, backwards compatibility will be fully supported and will improve the performance of Xbox One titles without the need for additional updates. The same applies to the benefits of having SSD storage, drastically reducing in-game load times.
Finally, as announced by the Microsoft themselves, the upcoming Project xCloud will be fully integrated into the Scartlett models, allowing for games to be played via streaming while waiting for them to be downloaded to the machine.
