Quests and The Abominable Greench

One of the main features in this event is the appearance of the Abominable Greench.

This is a clear-cut reference to the Dr. Seuss book How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, which was later adapted into a film by Ron Howard.

The Winter Veil event offers players a wealth of unique quests in either Orgrimmar (Horde) or Ironforge (Alliance).

Quests

  • Great-father Winter is Here! (Horde), Greatfather Winter is Here! (Alliance)

Horde players can receive this quest from Kaymard Copperpinch in Orgrimmar, while Alliance players should talk to Macey Jinglepocket in Ironforge. All you need to do is make your way to Great-father Winter in Orgrimmar, or Greatfather Winter in Ironforge.

  • zTreats for Great-father Winter (Horde), Treats for Greatfather Winter (Alliance)

After visiting Greatfather Winter, you must follow yuletide tradition and bring him 5 Gingerbread Cookies and a glass of Ice Cold Milk. The milk can be bought from Winter Veil vendors or from innkeepers.

Gingerbread Cookies are created by Cooks who have learned Recipe: Gingerbread Cookie, using ingredients that can be purchased from vendors. As thanks, Greatfather Winter will send a Smokywood Pastures Sampler to your letterbox the next day, which contains Graccu's Mince Meat Fruitcake.

  • The Reason for the Season (Horde), The Reason for the Season (Alliance)

Sagorne Creststrider or Historian Karnik will explain the reason for this holiday. This quest is given Furmund in Orgrimmar or Goli Krumn in Ironforge and can be turned in to Sagorne Creststrider in the Valley of Wisdom in Orgrimmar, or Historian Karnik in the Hall of Explorers in Ironforge respectively.

  • The Feast of Winter Veil (Horde), The Feast of Winter Veil (Alliance)

Finally, Sagorne Creststrider (Horde) or Historian Karnik (Alliance) will give you one quest with the goal of bringing a book entitled "The Feast of Winter Veil" to either Cairne Bloodhoof (Horde) or King Magni Bronzebeard (Alliance). Completing this will grind back the festive spirit to Azeroth. You can also read this book to learn more about this seasonal event.

Abominable Greench Quests

  • Stolen Winter Veil Treats (Horde), Stolen Winter Veil Treats (Alliance)

This quest is only available from Level 30 and is given to Horde players by Kaymard Copperpinch in Orgrimmar and Alliance players by Wulmort Jinglepocket in Ironforge. All you need to do is go to Alterac Mountains and interact with the Strange Snowman, which will set you off on a wild adventure.

  • You're a Mean One... (Horde), You're a Mean One... (Alliance)

This quest is a direct follow up to the one above and requires you to slay The Abominable Greench. He will spawn at various different locations throughout Alterac Mountains alongside yetis. He will let out a cry when he appears, so he's almost impossible to miss!

The Abominable Greench
  • A Smokywood Pastures' Thank You! (Horde), A Smokywood Pastures' Thank You! (Alliance)

This quest is only available if you've accomplished the preceding quest and defeated The Abominable Greench and can be turned in to Kaymard Copperpinch in Orgrimmar (Horde) or Wulmort Jinglepocket (Alliance). To finish this quest, simply pay a visit to Greatfather Winter, who will offer you a Smokywood Pastures Special Gift which may randomly contain one of the following recipes:

  • Recipe: Elixir of Frost Power
  • Plans: Edge of Winter
  • Formula: Enchant Weapon - Winter's Might
  • Schematic: Snowmaster 9000
  • Pattern: Gloves of the Greatfather
  • Pattern: Green Holiday Shirt

All this recipes can be traded or sold at the Auction House, so you're free to buy any you weren't fortunate enough to open!

  • Metzen the Reindeer (Horde), Metzen the Reindeer (Alliance)

This quest is only available to players from Level 40 and is given by Kaymard Copperpinch in Orgrimmar (Horde) or Wulmort Jinglepocket in Ironforge (Alliance). This quest will send you to Searing Gorge (66,35) or Tanaris (71,48) in order to recover the poor captive Metzen. Free him, then return to your quest giver, who will give you 5 boughs of Preserved Holly and a plethora of other rewards!

  • The Hero of the Day (Horde), The Hero of the Day (Alliance)

This quest is available from Level 40 onwards and is given to Horde players by Kaymard Copperpinch and Alliance players by Wulmort Jinglepocket respectively. This is a very easy quest, as all you need to do is give a Holly Preserver 5 gold and a Deeprock Salt, who will reward you with 5 boughs of Preserved Holly!

Numerous different cosmetic rewards are up for grabs during the event. We've listed the most important ones below, but keep in mind that some of the more trivial rewards are still available.

Winter Hats

These purely cosmetic items can be looted from specific high-level dungeon bosses. Here is how you can get your hands on them:

Red Winter Hat

Green Winter Hat

Wonderform

Operating on a similar concept to the Winter Hats, Wonderform transforms you into a Christmas Elf for 30 minutes. Your character will take the shape of a Gnome, decked out in festive apparel. If you die during whilst transformed, the effect will dissipate.

Here's where you can find Wonderform machines:

Alliance

  • Outside of the main gates in Ironforge
  • In front of entrance leading to the Stormwind Flight Master
  • On the docks at Menethil Harbour

Horde

  • Outside of the Orgrimmar Zeppelin Tower
  • Outside of the Undercity Zeppelin Tower

Neutral

  • On docks in Booty Bay
  • To the east of Gadgetzan in Tanaris

Winter Revellers

Though they are a bit of a side note, Winter Revellers do infact offer two notable rewards to players who take the time to pay them a bit of attention. all you need to do is blow a /kiss to one of the, who will randomly give you one of the following items:

  • Fresh Holly: Transforms your mount into a reindeer
  • Mistletoe: Provides the target with +20 spirit

Mistletoe is actually very useful, particularly for Healers. Collecting some can definitely prove worth your while!

Note: Winter Revellers, who can be found in major cities and faction capitals, can only offer a player one reward per hour.
