Mining is one of the Gathering Skills in Amazon's new MMO, New World.

It will help you seek out and obtain key resources that you can turn into Ingots and other refined products, and requires you to equip a Pickaxe.

With plenty of mining nodes in Aeternum, you shouldn't find yourself short when levelling your Crafting skills!

Is Mining for me?

If you're looking to increase your level in Weaponsmithing, Armoring, Engineering or Furnishing, then you're going to need a whole lot of ore. This gathering skill turns you into a bit of an explorer as you hunt down rare mining nodes.

To mine a ore deposit, press the interaction key (default E) when close to it. Be mindful to have a Pickaxe equipped, and make sure it isn't broken.

If you're running a build that requires Strength, you'll get bonuses to your Mining ability. You'll get this for every 50 points you have in the stat.

  • 50 Strength: +10% mining speed
  • 100 Strength: +20 Encumberance (can carry more)
  • 150 Strength: -10% decrease in weight of mined items
  • 200 Strength: +10% mining speed
  • 250 Strength: +10% yield when mining
  • 300 Strength: 25% chance to mine an ore deposit with a single swing

Adding Bonuses to Logging

Via Crafting Perks

You can use the following special resources when crafting to add perks to your Pickaxe:

Starmetal Miner's Charm

Orichalcum Minor Charm

Via Trophies

Displaying Trophies within your home adds more bonuses to your adventures in Aeternum.

These are the three that are relevant for Mining:

Minor Mining Gathering Trophy

Requires Furnishing Level 75.

Grants a small bonus when using the Pickaxe in the wild.

Only works when Trophy is displayed in your home.

Via Cooking

While not an upgrade for the Pickace exactly, certain food will grant a bonus to your results when mining nodes.

Roasted Potaroes, and Herb-Roasted Potatoes, for example, increase Mining luck, and they won't set you back too much in terms of resources.

Honey can be gathered almost everywhere, but a quick way to get hold of some is from the stands in Settlements.

Butter is made from Milk at the Kitchen, and can also be obtained from the cow you'll find in Settlements.

Peppercorn and Cinnamon are drops when harvesting Herbs.

Rare Resources

There are several, much rarer resources that have a tiny chance to drop when Mining. These include Fae Iron, Voidmetal, Gemstones, and various Slivers, Shards and Chunks of crafting augmentation resources.

To increase your chances of getting these items, make sure you use all the buff options above - the Starmetal Miner's Charm on your Pickaxe, the best Trophy you can display, and the Roast Potatoes.

Ore Vein Locations

Depending on your Mining level, you'll be able to spot the various Ore Veins on the Compass displayed on the top of the screen.

These unlock at certain milestones, such as Iron Veins at Mining Lv. 25, Silver Veins at Mining Lv. 35, all the way up to Orichalcum Veins at Mining Lv. 200 (the maximum).

There are a few interactive maps that have sprung up online that can help you locate the various trees in New World, especially the rare ones. Make sure you consult them when hunting that particular resource!
