In Death Stranding, you will encounter 3 main threats: the BTs, during the rains, Higgs terrorists and MULES, people who have become addicted to deliveries in a world where they are of paramount importance.
They will not try to kill you but simply to rob you. In this guide, we will see how they work and what you can learn from them. And if you were to kill one, here's how to get rid of the body.
How do MULEs behave
As mentioned above, these crazy delivery guys are always looking for cargoes, which means their patrols will be conducted according to the resources they can acquire in an area. The more deliveries you make, the more likely they are to rob high level equipment: your equipment and the equipment of the other Porters will improve as your adventure progresses, giving them more opportunities to steal good gear and become stronger.
Counter MULEs with your radar
After your first meeting with Mama, you will be able to counter the MULEs with your own radar. For this to work and to have enough time to jam the enemy signal, you will need a good sense of timing, but also to be far enough away from the beacons you can find within their perimeter. If the counter is successful, you will receive a small notification indicating the interference of the MULE signal.
Infiltration
It is difficult to locate the inside of a MULE camp with your Odradek radar: it will simply have you spotted more quickly by the enemies. What you need is a reconnaissance tower to be placed not far from the orange zones, in order to identify the number of people without attracting their attention. All you have to do is switch to infiltration mode and for that, not having a 15-meter high cargo on your back will greatly help you: just have a grenade launcher on the tool rack and a few blood bags, you will need space anyway to grab their loot.
Your best option to neutralize the MULEs discreetly is the Bolas Launcher/Kick combo that will allow you to easily knock out several units without the slightest effort. Sam's link is also an excellent way to take them out.The most important step is reconnaissance of the terrain. Once the enemies are marked on the map, you should no longer have problems dealing with them.
Confrontation
If combat is your last option, there are many options available to you, but we strongly advise against killing anyone during your adventure:
- L2+R2 pressed, then square to disengage a Mule, then you just have to follow it up with the basic combo by mashing square.
- Take a cargo in your hands and smack it with it, usually you will defeat the soldier in one blow. On the other hand, the cargo will take a lot of damage.
- Non-lethal bullets will do very well once you have acquired a few firearms. We insist on that, don't kill anyone!
Remember, MULEs have the ability to disable your vehicle with electric spears, if you ever want to approach a camp with your bike, park it at good distance to avoid any disappointments.
Why search the camps?
MULE zones generally contain one or two boxes filled with goods. This is an excellent way to collect materials, but also items abandoned by other Porters. The use of a power exoskeleton is strongly recommended if you feel that the MULE patrols have been particularly productive.
There is no need to target soldiers if you have direct access to boxes by taking back roads. These are marked on your map, just like any other storage box: if you do it right, you should be able to raid it without anyone noticing.
