PS5 will not be backwards compatible with PS1, PS2 and PS3 titles, according to Ubisoft support

We're still waiting on official confirmation from Sony, but Ubisoft appears to have leaked the fact that the PS5 will be incompatible with PS3, PS2, and PS1 titles via its support site.

Ubisoft have realised their blunder and have removed their comment on the PS5's lack of backwards compatibility. They have yet to release a statement on this decision.

As its launch draws ever closer, the question of whether the Playstation 5 will have full backwards compatibility with Sony's previous line consoles remains unanswered. While Sony has stayed silent on this topic, it appears that Ubisoft hasn't.

Through its support site, the publisher has confirmed that there will be backwards compatibility between the PS4 and the PS5, which bodes well with Ubisoft's range of next-gen titles, such as Assasins Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, and Far Cry 6. However, Ubisoft goes on to state that games released for previous console generations will not be playable on the PS5.

Even if this information should be taken with a grain of salt, this leak has yet to be confirmed. We hope that Sony will allow players to re-experience some of its old titles on the PS5, despite this not being the case in previous generations.

In comparison with its competitor, Microsoft allows gamers to play titles released for the 360 and the One on its new Xbox Series X. Furthermore, its catalogue of backwards compatible titles is sure to increase once the console has launched.
