Thanks to a study by Gamesindutry.biz conducted from September 23 to 25 on a sample of 550 American players, we learned more about the pre-order ratio and the games that sparked the more enthusiasm and prompted people to take the leap.
Note that only 15% of the representative managed to pre-order a new generation console: divided into 3 groups (casual, midcore and hardcore), this sample should already give a little idea of the gap between the two consoles.
Study summary
- 72% of people who were able to pre-order a console opted for a PS5 with a disc drive, 30% for the Xbox Series X, 10% for the PS5 Digital Edition and 8% for the Xbox Series S.
- 58% of people who were unable to pre-order a console will later opt for the PS5 with drive, 40% for the Xbox Series X, 21% for the Digital Edition and 11% for the Xbox Series S.
- 52% of people who pre-ordered a PS5 took the leap because of Spider-Man Miles Morales, followed by God of War Ragnarok at 42% and Final Fantasy XVI at 32%, which is a temporary exclusive.
- On the Microsoft side, 45% of respondents opted for the Xbox Series thanks to Halo Infinite, followed by Fable at 26% and Forza Motorsport at 24%.
- Among third-party publishers, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War motivated 45% of respondents to take the leap. In second position, we find Assassin's Creed Valhalla with 31% of the vote.
- Finally, without any real surprise, 45% of respondents admitted to opting for a PS5 for its exclusives, while 42% of Xbox Series X buyers will buy the machine for its services, such as the Gamepass.
Note that more than 60% of the people questioned were completely unaware of the fact that Microsoft had bought Zenimax / Bethesda.
