Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is getting GGPO rollback network implementation.

Arc System Works, responsible for well-known 2D fighters like Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena, and Dragon Ball FighterZ, tweeted that public testing will start on October 29. We can expect more info soon.

GGPO, or rollback netcode, is basically a way to predict what a person's next input will be to decrease lag time between two online players. It happens fast and is barely noticeable if done well.

The key is in the prediction. For example, if a character is moving forward the system will predict that it will continue to do so. If a player kicks, instead of trying to catch up, the system will skip to the part of the kick that's already happening, like joining in on a sing-along later – you wouldn't start from the beginning, just the current part.

FGC analyst Core-A Gaming does a great job breaking down the process without sounding too technical.

The game is the fifth revision of the Guilty Gear XX Series, and has a healthy online following. It's often showcased in tournaments, including AnimEVO held in Las Vegas.

Because of COVID, more and more tournaments are moving online-only. Being able to play without lag and input delay is important for the fighting game community. It's never fun when a smooth offline experience turns into a slideshow online.

The game is currently available on Steam and the Nintendo Switch. It was originally released in Japanese arcades in addition to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox 360.
