In the latest Impact Index from The Esports Observer, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has joined Riot Games' League of Legends as one of the most-sigames of Q3 2020.
The full Index is as follows:
Explaining their decision, TEO cited the Call of Duty League season as the crucial factor, given the prize pool of $5m being far more than any other game on the Index. It was also the game that saw the most streaming hours on Twitch.
Another interesting point is that despite Call of Duty being played predominantly on console, the PC player base was the fourth largest of all games on the Index.
Formerly a top-tier game, CS:GO has dropped due to a decline in its esports activity. Prize pools were down, and there were less events than would normally occur. The same can be said for Dota 2, which has been decimated by the pandemic, with the $35m flagship event, The International, being pushed from its traditional Autumn slot.
Fortnite continues to pull in huge streaming numbers, second only to Call of Duty on Twitch. However, without any major events, it fails to climb in the Index. Overwatch improved slightly, mainly thanks to the $4m Overwatch League coming to a conclusion.
PUBG also made the top ten, thanks in part to the PCS series of events across the globe and strong streaming numbers.
