Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has said that neither the announcement of a new console nor an improved version of the Nintendo Switch should be expected in the coming months.

Nintendo says the Switch Pro won't be released in 2021

Numerous rumors suggested that a Switch Pro would be announced this year, but Furukawa has denied that information to Bloomberg.

The message is clear: there are simply no plans for a new console or a 4K "Pro" version of the Switch in the coming months.

One of the reasons could be the impressive success of the Nintendo Switch in 2020. 11.6 million copies were sold during the Christmas holidays, a 7% increase compared to the previous four years. The release of Animal Crossing New Horizons also increased sales by 43%, especially during the lockdown period in March.

All in all, thanks to the success and sales of the Switch (more than 80 million units sold since its launch), Nintendo has more than enough to hold its own in 2021, and the President would rather focus on accessories, such as Ring Fit Adventure.
