Horizon Forbidden West is one of the next exclusive titles for PlayStation, releasing simultaneously for PS4 and PS5. Last week, the first gameplay showcase was released and it featured an interesting number of changes from the original.
Thanks to different interviews, today we know more details about Aloy's next big adventure. Following IGN's article, our protagonist can climb pretty much "anywhere". Game Director Mathijs de Jonge said that “There is more hand-placed, controlled exploration going on there. But outside of the settlements, in the open world, you can climb anywhere.”
Also, he explained that the "Focus" ability, which highlights surfaces that can be touched, isn't necessary to climb. Actually, it just shows a couple of options, you will be able to climb many other spaces.
Regarding the sequel's word, Narrative Director Benjamin McCaw explained that "the map is a little bit bigger", but they are focusing on giving it density. That meas that there are going to be many more activities and content than in the original.
The duo also spoke about the new underwater sections, which seems to be more interesting that what we already saw, but they are leaving the surprises for later. According to McCaw, “Exploration is really the theme. And it's not enough for us to just show underwater. We wanted to make sure that it's every bit as beautiful as what you see in the natural world above it.”
Finally, both McCaw and de Jonge said a few things about the combat, such as the new possibilities for fighting against humans. This were by far the least interesting battles in the previous one, so they are trying to make them more "tactical" now, allowing the player to use Focus on enemies to spot different weakness and giving a new depth to melee combat.
