How to obtain a Fishing Pole?
Fishing Poles can be obtained from the following:
- Crafting at a camp
- Crafting at a crafting station in a settlement
- As rewards for completing quests
- Drops from enemies
- From the Trading Post
Be mindful that only Tier 1 tools can be made within your camp.
The best way to get the better Fishing Poles is through the Workshop, which will require Engineering. We don't recommend spending money on them at Trading Posts unless you have money to burn.
Improving the Fishing Pole
There are two ways you can improve your fishing prowess. One is through the many Perks that can be baked into Fishing Poles or other gear, the other is through the use of Bait.
Fishing-related Perks
There are a vast number of Perks that can boost various aspects of your fishing capabilities, such as increasing chances of rare fish and improving cast distance.

Resources gathered with the Fishing Pole
There are three categories of items you can fish up with your Fishing Pole.
Fish speak for themselves - aquatic creatures that are key in many Cooking recipes. To turn your catches into Fish Filets, Fish Oil and other important ingredients, simply Salvage your catches.
You can get some pretty rare resources this way, too, which are used not only in Cooking, but Arcana too.
Treasure Chests are a rare drop, and can house Gemstones, Metal Ingots, and Gold. Use bait on Hotspots for a better chance at landing one of these beauties!
Junk is exactly that. You might fish up a tattered boot or an old oar. These serve no purpose other than being Salvaged for parts.
