For Patch 1.12 of WoW Classic, check out our complete guide to the Feral Tank Druid, which covers talents, rotation, statistics, equipment and professions.

WoW Classic: Feral Druid tank guide

The Feral Tank Druid in WoW Classic is the runt of the litter, to put it mildly.

Even though it is seen as a bit of a joke spec in retrospect, we still think some joy can be had.

Tier B (PvE) Tier C (PvP, mostly as flag carrier)

The tank-oriented Feral Druid spec is the least appreciated tank in WoW Classic, because of its less than perfect role and its weaknesses related to the lack of optimization of its Bear Form.

Feral is indeed an excellent off-tank, and will find its place in a high-level raid without any problems. However, the many weaknesses make it impossible to be a main tank during high-level raids.

Nevertheless, let's break the prejudices — the Bear remains very good in its field, and has serious assets that no raid should neglect.

In PvP, they're perfectly viable as a flag-bearer, and as such has a perfect place in Warsong Gulch.

Great off-tank, great at holding aggro
High armour and HP
Has a battle resurrection
Hard to CC
Can't be polymorphed
A few situations in which Bear is better than Warrior or Paladin
Bad AoE
Can't block or parry
Can't use a lot of potions etc in Bear Form
Lacks utility
Cannot Rebirth or Innervate in Bear Form
Can't use Thunderfury, and therefore loses out on the best tank weapon
Has a bad reputation in the community

Talents

World of Warcraft: Classic

The goal of this build is clear: to make you the strongest tank ever, while providing maximum for your group or raid.

Your threat generation should therefore never be a problem with this build, and you should have such survivability that the best Warriors will envy you.

Stats to prioritize

Stamina > Dodge > Agility > Defense > Hit > Critical Strike > Strength >= Attack Power

Rotation and Abilities

  • Maul as soon as possible
  • Swipe in order to spend your excess rage,
  • Faerie Fire when you run out of rage, if you cannot use Swipe
Rebirth

Rebirth

Rebirth is the only resurrection spell available to the Druid.

Although it has a long CD (30 minutes), it can be used in combat and is likely to save the group if one of the main Tanks dies.

Note: Don't forget to bring Ironwood Seeds with you, as one is required for every use of Rebirth.

Barkskin

Barkskin

Although very powerful due to its low CD and the physical damage reduction it grants, Barkskin is the only defensive CD the Druid Tank has.

Abuse it, and it will save you a number of times!

Gift of the Wild

Gift of the Wild

Gift of the Wild is essential to any raid group. This is the equivalent of the Mark of the Wild, but for the entire group, saving you a lot of time and mana.

Note: Don't forget to bring Wild Thornroot with you, as one is required for each use of Gift of the Wild.

Best Race For Feral Tank Druid

Horde

Tauren

The Tauren is one of only two races that can be a Druid, alongside the Night Elf.

Endurance is very good for tankiness, and War Stomp is useful in many situations. Finally, Nature Resistance is useful in certain cases, and makes them slightly tankier.

Alliance

Night Elf

In addition to Quickness giving them a slight gain in survival. Nature Resistance is pretty useful in certain situations and will give the Night Elf Druid a slight edge.

Shadowmeld is another decent racial which can see some benefit, allowing you to hide or drop from combat quickly.

WoW Classic: Race Tier List

World of Warcraft: Classic has a number of races to choose from, and making that choice has long-term consequences. You don't want to regret your choice later, so we've broken down the races in our tier list for WoW: Classic.

Professions

Herbalism

If you follow our advice on professions, Herbalism is an excellent choice. Paired with Alchemy, you can be almost self-sufficient.

Even if you don't choose Alchemy, it allows you to farm components for your guild or to sell to the Auction House, making a small fortune.

Alchemy

Alchemy is one of the most important professions in World of Warcraft because it allows for the creation of flasks and various potions, some more useful than others.

The Druid does not need to opt for a particular crafting profession to make a specific armour set, so it's the ideal class for Alchemy.

Engineering

The Engineer is the best choice by default as it's great in both PvE and PvP.

From Goblin Sapper Charge and Arcanite Dragonling, to the Dense Dynamite, everything about this role will always be useful!
