After some players were able to gather large amounts of reagents and valuable gear in record time via an exploit, Blizzard has once again revealed a solution to the problem — this time announcing sanctions for those who abused the bug.

WoW Classic: Sanctions For Players Exploiting Instance Mechanics

World of Warcraft Classic players recently discovered a bug which allowed them to repeatedly reach the final boss of any instance without having to go through the rest of the dungeon in question. This exploit affects final bosses and some other specific mobs. On Monday September 16, Blizzard announced a response to this issue and also stated that they would punish players who knowingly exploited this bug.

Given that the bug hasn't yet been patched, we can't tell you how to perform it at the moment. However, to measure the impact on your server, you should know that players are able to farm highly desired items, some of them being considered BiS (Best In Slot, the best gear possible), such as:

  • Pattern: Truefaith Vestments, dropped by Balnazzar in Stratholme (Main Gate)
  • Pattern: Robe of the Archmage, dropped by Firebrand Pyromancers in Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS)
  • Pattern: Robe of the Void, dropped by Darkmaster Gandling in Scholomance

Any object from any dungeon can be farmed in this manner, allowing players who use this exploit to have powerful high-level gear without having to leave the instance, or having to kill the mobs barring the way. Free loot for all!

Unfortunately, for players, Blizzard is serious about this bug, threatening "punitive measures" for those using this exploit. It's very possible that this may soon lead to a wave of bans.

Blizzard's Official Response

We’ve recently become aware of a bug that could be exploited to allow instanced encounters to be completed repeatedly. We have developed a fix for the issue, and we are in the process of deploying it worldwide.

Realm restarts are scheduled for 3:00 a.m. PDT (6:00 a.m. EDT) in order to apply this fix.

As soon as possible, we will identify those who knowingly abused this bug in exploitative manner. We will then take appropriate punitive measures.

As a reminder, Blizzard’s End User License Agreement 2 defines cheats as “methods not expressly authorized by Blizzard, influencing and/or facilitating the gameplay, including exploits of any in-game bugs, and thereby granting you and/or any other user an advantage over other players not using such methods.”

As always, thank you for your feedback on this matter.

The exploit is likely to be patched out soon, and in the interests of your account standing we'd advise you not to go looking for it!
