Weaponsmithing is one of the Crafting Trade Skills in Amazon's new MMO, New World.
There's no prerequisite to getting started with this skill, just take the ingots and other resources you've refined to a Forge in a Settlement and off you go.
Be mindful that you'll need a higher level Forge to refine higher quality gear, so make sure you visit a Settlement which has leveled up its workstations.
Is Weaponsmithing for me?
If you're looking for melee weapons, then Weaponsmithing is a trade skill you absolutely need to invest in.
It's a profession which has perfect synergy with the Mining gathering skill, but it also relies on all the professions listed above for secondary resources in crafting weapons.
Weaponsmithing Leveling Guide
Should you wish to speed up your progress in Weaponsmithing from 0-200, we've put together a dedicated guide.
Where to find Weaponsmithing resources
The vast majority of resources needed for Weaponsmithing recipes come from the Mining gathering skill.
You'll need plenty of Ore, which is gathered from the respective Ore Veins found in the wilds. However, you'll also need wood, leather and other materials, which are gathered from all the other professions.
Ultimately, it will be a drawn-out, expensive profession to max out, and may even require playing the Trading Post for materials you can't grind out (or don't have the patience for.)
Weaponsmithing: Most notable items to craft
We recommend prioritising Shields. As soon as the next level is unlocked, craft those recipes that become available.
Everyone can equip a Shield, regardless of what class they build. They add valuable defensive stats and perks that can help with survivability.
Outside of Shields, craft the items that fit your build (if relevant), and then speculate as to what is popular to sell on the Trading Post.
If you're a higher level smith than others in your Settlement, perhaps consider being a Smith for hire. This could also prove to be lucrative, at least until other players catch up.
