Legends of Runeterra — LoR Patch 0.9.3 notes: Progress and economy update

Patch 0.9.3 is available in Legends of Runeterra! Following their previous announcement, Riot Games decided to bring some changes to the progression and the economic systems in order to allow more flexibility to all types of players. Certain card texts have been updated for clarity, and the Master tier of Ranked mode has been slightly modified.

Economic system

As mentioned by Design Lead Andrew “Umbrage” Yip in his article on the state of beta, the progression system seems to work well as a whole. On the other hand, the methods chosen to achieve certain objectives (such as ensuring the evolution of the meta and developing the various means of investing time and money in the game) have not always proved ideal. This is why Riot decided to give us more control over our progress: one champion Wildcard per week in a safe that can now change ad infinitum, no daily XP limit and the unlimited possibility of buying directly any card.

Safe

The safe is now improved and can evolve endlessly.

  • Level 2 and higher chests now contain a shipping token (previously: level 10 and above).
  • Chests of level 5 and above now contain a random champion card.
  • Level 10 and higher chests now contain a champion Wildcard (this replaces the level 5 random champion card).
  • Once you reach level 13, you can now earn additional capsules for every 4,500 XP points earned, endlessly! Each capsule contains at least 3 rare cards and 2 common cards — and each reward has a chance to be improved, capsule included!

Victory XP

You can now earn endless XP with victories in PvP and victories against AI.

  • Normal, Ranked, and Expedition PvP wins will earn you 200 and 100 base XP respectively — each time. The first win bonus of the day still applies.
  • Victories against AI now always earn at least 50 XP points:

1 to 10 victories against AI: 100 XP
10 or more wins against AI: 50 XP

Wildcards and direct card purchase

You can now buy as many wild cards as you want.

  • No more weekly stock limit of wild cards in the store.
  • You can now buy cards directly from the Collection tab in exchange for coins (at the same price as the equivalent Wildcard).

Expeditions

You can now participate in expeditions more often (the entry price and rewards have been reduced by ~ 33%).

  • The entry price is now 2000 Shards or 200 pieces (previously: 3000 Shards or 300 pieces).

    Expeditions mode rewards update:

  • 0 victory: epic capsule Epic capsules contain an epic card, 2 rare cards and 2 community cards (and each reward has a chance to be improved, including the capsule!).
  • 1 victory: epic capsule, 100 Shards
  • 2 wins: epic capsule, 200 Shards
  • 3 victories: epic capsule, 200 Shards, 1 common Wildcard
  • 4 victories: epic capsule, 300 Shards, 2 common Wildcard
  • 5 wins: epic capsule, 500 Shards, 1 rare Wildcard, 1 common Wildcard
  • 6 victories: epic capsule, 1000 Shards, 1 rare Wildcard, 1 common Wildcard
  • 7 victories: epic capsule, 2000 Shards, 2 rare Wildcards

    Additional details:

  • Expeditions that started before the launch of patch 0.9.3 will receive the rewards prior to the update.
  • When putting patch 0.9.3 online, players will receive 1000 Shards per shipping token they have in their inventory (to offset the reduction in the value of these tokens). Note: these Shards will not arrive in a grandiose or notable way, they will simply be added to your total of Shards.

Modification of prologue rewards

New players will discover more cards at the first levels, and they will receive usable currencies once they have a little more experience.

  • The level 2 rewards have been adjusted (a rare Wildcard + 200 Shards → an epic Wildcard + 200 Shards) and moved to level 9.
  • The rewards from levels 3 to 9 have been shifted by one level (these are now the rewards from levels 2 to 8).
A datamining revealed new champions of Targon and Bilgewater for the next expansion!

The next expansion has not yet been announced and dataminers have already discovered a lot of information on potential new regions and new champions to discover. For the moment nothing is official, meaning all of this has to be taken with great caution!
