WoW Classic: Onyxia defeated by a group of completely naked players

WoW Classic: Onyxia defeated by a group of completely naked players

WoW Classic is quickly becoming the home of the weird and wonderful. On the 9th July, a guild managed to clear Onyxia's Lair with a 40-raid composed entirely of naked players. A monumental — if unnecessary — achievement.

WoW Classic: Onyxia defeated by a group of completely naked players

Since the release of WoW Classic, players have been treated to a plethora of World Firsts. But on Thursday 9th July, a group of players on the Zandalar Tribe (EU) server managed to pull off a completely different kind of World First: defeating Oynxia in Onyxia's Lair with a completely naked raid. By "naked", we mean characters not carrying any weapons, armour, trinkets, or rings.

This immense accomplishment took them just over 10 minutes

Explanation

To achieve this feat, the raid was exclusively composed of casters. The reason behind this is simple: spell casters don't lose as much DPS as melee classes when they're unarmed. With this, despite being a whole lot weaker that normal, casters can still inflict damage through their spells, unlike melee classes, who can only fight with their fists and can't use abilities (you need to be holding a melee weapon to be able to use your abilities).

Tanks had to get creative when it came to holding aggro. Onyxia was first pulled by a Mage using a Rank 1 Frostbolt. A Paladin then casted Greater Blessing of Kings on the Mages, which generates an enormous amount of threat, since by targeting a single Mage, nearly the entire raid ends up getting buffed. According to one of the players in the raid, this ended up generating 1,700 points of threat!

Paladins (or warriors for that matter) can't really generate threat in.a reasonable time without a weapon / shield (or + SP from gear), so I had the mages start the fight with a rank 1 frostbolt (minimal damage) and as soon as they hit, our pally tank could cast greater blessing of kings on the mages. This generates an insane amount of threat. I think we had 15 mages, so it would be around 1.7k threat per cast. The timing of it was important, so the tank should've been in position before the mages cast ... which is why the first dragonkin walked into the raid, because we pulled before Berit was in position!

Finally, we should also clarify that this achievement was made a lot easier thanks to numerous additional buffs, such as: Potions, Flasks, World Buffs, and many more. To understand how stacked some of these players  were, just take a look at one of their buff bars. While they didn't use any equipment in their showdown with Onyxia, they were sure to come prepared!

This accomplishment may have been as impressive as it was pointless, but congratulations nonetheless!

WoW Classic: A French player may have become the first to solo Scholomance

A French player was recently able to complete Scholomance, a high-level dungeon in WoW Classic, as a solo player. This may well be a World First for this patch; check out his run below!
