The Summer Game Fest and E3 kick off with a show that promises world premieres, exclusive trailers and more. Here's what went down, including ELDEN RING!

Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live: All Announcements & Reveals

Promising more than 12 'world premieres' and about 30 games in all, the two-hour Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live event was hype.

In the lead up to the event organizer Geoff Keighley revealed a little of the show's content, which will include the following:

  • A Geoff Keighley Among Us mask Twitch drop, and game updates
  • Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 details
  • World Series of Warzone captains reveal
  • A new adventure from 2K and Gearbox
  • Evil Dead: The Game
  • New IPs
  • Special appearance from Jeff Goldblum and Weezer revealing a new single

Here we summarize all the announcements as they were made, including any trailers that were released.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

A brand new title from Gearbox Software and 2K, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is best described as 'Borderlands with guns in a high-fantasy setting' -- a loot-shooter starring Ashly Bruce and Will Arnett.

Tiny Tina is on an adventure to defeat the Dragon Lord. While similar thematically to Borderlands, Bruce stated that it will do its own thing separate to that storied series.

Coming 'Early 2022'.

Metal Slug Tactics

The return of an iconic 90s franchise, Metal Slug Tactics is a Final Fantasy Tactics-esque take on SNK's old run-and-gun series from Dotemu and Leikir Studio

Hideo Kojima / Death Stranding: Director's Cut

Of course, Keighley's good mate and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima had to make an appearance, over video-conference.

There was no reveals, just a chit chat about... 9/11 and politics?

But then, one more thing... a Death Stranding: Director's Cut trailer, but with Metal Gear Solid-sounding music and Sam Porter Bridges hiding in boxes, Solid Snake-style

Death Stranding will receive a brand new version for PlayStation 5, called Director's Cut.

Jeff Goldblum / Jurassic World: Evolution 2

Madcap as ever, the Jurassic Park actor cryptically revealed Jurassic World: Evolution 2 while reading from a teleprompter.

The trailer, narrated by Goldblum, shows off the park, but also reveals that players will experience water-based dinos for the first time.

Coming 2021.

Sable

Revealed in collaboration with singer Japanese Breakfast, Sable is a gorgeous adventure from Shedworks in which main character Sable must embark on the Gliding, a rite of passage.

Lost Ark

From Smilegate and Amazon Games, demons and dragons are everywhere in Lost Ark, an MMORPG which promises tons of action.

Coming west in Fall 2021.

Call of Duty: Cold War & Warzone Season 4

New weapons, new maps, new operators, expanded Zombies, and whole lot more comes to Call of Duty Season 4.

As well as content, there's also the World Series of Warzone, with the largest prize pool on offer for Activision's battle royale. Partnered with Twitch Rivals, it takes place across June 22-23.

Nadeshot, TimTheTatMan, Aydan, Swagg and DanDangler were the five captains named.

No details were shared of the new Call of Duty title.

Activision revealed Warzone Season 4 with a new trailer

New modes, characters, enemies and more are coming to Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4.

Ryan Reynolds / Free Guy

The Hollywood funnyman talked about his upcoming movie Free Guy, and showed off a trailer. The movie, which sees Reynolds play an NPC in a video game who breaks the chains that shackle him to save the world he lives in.

Ninja was in the trailer, somewhat expectedly, alongside Pokimane and other streaming stars.

Coming August.

Among Us

The smash hit co-op title Among Us got a trailer for what's coming with the Map 5 Update.

Viewers on Twitch could also get a drop of the 'ultra-rare' Geoff Keighley mask for the game.

 

PlayStation Indies

Fan favourite Shuhei Yoshida showed off some charming PlayStation Indies, including Chickory: A Colorful Tale, and Salt & Sacrifice, a side-scrolling co-op adventure with a striking art style.

Keighley then introduced a trailer for Heart Machine and Annapurna's latest, Solar Ash, a neon-iinfused platformer.

Chivalry 2

A gameplay trailer for the epic medieval battle game Chivalry 2 was then played, in which many poor souls lost blood, guts, and limbs.

Available now.

VALORANT

Keighley then spoke of Riot Games' VALORANT, with an exclusive tease of the new agent.

A robot's head appeared on a table, with the body standing nearby. That was it.

Escape from Tarkov

An exclusive trailer for the latest update to Escape from Tarkov was next.

Two Point Campus

The follow-up to the hospital-based original, Two Point Campus promises to bring the comedy to education.

Netflix Geeked Week

Dropping names such as The Cuphead Show and Riot Games' upcoming Arcane, Keighley promoted Netflix' own summer reveal plans, already under way.

He also teased a Smite x Stranger Things crossover, with a whole bunch of skins coming to the game - including Hopper, Eleven, and more, coming July 13.

Prime Matter

A new label under Koch Media, Prime Matter will work on a new Painkiller game, among others shown in a montage.

Rocket League x Fast 9

Next up was a trailer for a collaboration between car-based football game Rocket League and upcoming, over-the-top car-based action flick, Fast 9. Players can get their hands on some new cars from the Fast & Furious franchise.

Coming June 17.

Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodhunt

A trailer for Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodhunt, was typically stylish.

The alpha will go live on July 2, with players able to register now. 

Coming 2021.

The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes

The latest in the horror anthology, The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes got a new trailer.

Coming October 22, 2021.

Tales of Arise

The latest in the beloved JRPG franchise, Tales of Arise showcased a typically epic 'save the world from the bad people' plot.

The game goes on sale on September 21, 2021.

Sky / The Little Prince

The gorgeous looking Sky from thatgamecompany is coming to Nintendo Switch on June 29, and gets a crossover with classic tale The Little Prince.

Planet of Lana

Another side-scrolling platformer in the vein of Ori and LIMBO, Planet of Lana is an 'off-Earth odyssey' with stunning hand-painted visuals.

Coming 2022.

Overwatch 2

Next up was a showcase of Blizzard's Overwatch 2, specifically how character updates Baptiste and Sombra will work.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance

A reimagining of the console-based classic Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, is a co-op title that brings the tabletop RPG to multiplayer gaming.

A video was shown of Keighley playing with actor comedian Hannibal Buress, WWE Superstar Ember Moon, and 2K developer Jeff Hattem.

Coming June 22.

Paladins

A trailer was shown for the upcoming Paladins x gen:lock collaboration, featuring new characters.

Coming July 2021.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

An exclusive story reveal trailer for the upcoming Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wigngs of Ruin was shown next.

Capcom's latest comes to Nintendo Switch on July 9, 2021.

Weezer

The American rock band Weezer premiered their new track, giving me a brief interlude to catch up with this liveblog and find trailers to insert. WIN!

Apparently it was to promote a 'Weezy Mode' level in Wave Break.

Endless Dungeon

Amplitude's isometric shooter Endless Dungeon came with a trailer showcasing rules to follow.

 

Far Cry 6 / Giancarlo Esposito

The actor spoke to Keighley about his experience with Far Cry 6, in which he plays a dictator. He's not a villain in real life though, even if he always seems to play them!

According to the star, he wants to be a 'renegade within reason'. You just know he's going to be amazing in Ubisoft's upcoming shooter when it releases later this year.

Fall Guys

A new costume was exclusively revealed for Fall Guys, one that allows players to run around as a bean-like 2B from Nier: Automata.

Available June 18.

Genshin Impact

Next up was a trailer for Genshin Impact 1.6, the latest update to the free-to-play game with a whole lot of gacha.

Deviation Games

A new studio, Deviation Games is led by Treyarch alums Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell, and revealed it was working on a new IP in cooperation with PlayStation.

Sonic Unleashed

A nice little musical interlude here, as a smartly-dressed orchestra plays music from Sonic Unleashed.

A special Sonic 30th Anniversary concert will take place on June 23.

Back 4 Blood

More guns, this time with more zombies. Back 4 Blood will get its own PvP showcase on June 13, and this was just a teaser for that. An open beta begins on August 5.

Coming October 12, 2021. 

Tunic

Delightful indie title Tunic features a fox taking on dungeons.

It'll be part of the ID @ Xbox event next Tuesday, with Keighley taking a dig at E3 by saying 'no badges will be necessary'. Spicy!

Tribes of Midgard

A Diablo-like ARPG, Tribes of Midgard got a new trailer which showed off some of it's Norse-themed co-op mayhem.

Available July 27.

Evil Dead: The Game

Bruce Campbell narrated this extended look at Evil Dead: The Game from Saber Interactive. A co-op actioner that has you either save the world, or try to destroy it as the Kandarian Demon.

Not a fan of zombies myself, but this looks very fun indeed.

Coming 2021.

Elden Ring

And for the grand finale, Keighley showed off and extended story-and-gameplay infused trailer for Elden Ring after an equally lengthy teasing introduction.

Details of this collab between FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin have been mega-scarce, but Keighley has only gone and done it with the exclusice reveal. Absolute legend.

We won't say anything, just watch.

Whoa.

Coming January 21, 2022 to next-gen and current-gen consoles and PC

To close things out, Keighley announced that The Game Awards will return as an in-person event later this year.

All-in all it was a solid event, with plenty of titles revealed. That bombshell at the end though, many are going to say that Keighley won the summer now.
