League of Legends has some of the most exciting weeks of its history coming soon. Sentinels of Light is the next major event to come to Summoner's Rift, bringing a new game mode, skins, and lore developments. It will begin on July 8 with the introduction of Patch 11.14 and will be available for two patches, closing the curtain a month after its release on August 10.
All the Confirmed News on the Sentinels of Light
Riot Games isn't going to disappoint League of Legends fans, knowing that this is one of the major events on the calendar for 2021. For this reason, the developer wants to manage the event well; using teasers to make sure it's on everyone's lips over the next few weeks.
New Champion and Game Mode
We have the confirmed arrival of Akshan as the next Champion. Leaks gave way to this discovery, as well as an official confirmation from Riot Games about the Lost Sentinel. This new champion will play an important role in the story and will come to the game as a midlane marksman. Despite other ADCs played in this position, Akshan will be the first one developed specifically for this purpose. It seems the new champion will arrive on Patch 11.15, which is due to deploy on July 21.
In addition to this, we will have the Ultimate Spellbook, a new game mode in which players can choose an additional Ultimate to replace one of their Summoner Spells. This new game mode will be live for the month, appearing for the duration of the Sentinels of Light event and returning in the future if enough interest is shown.
More Stories and New Skins
Another of the great things to unveiled during Sentinels of Light will be the new skins. Characters who have been given these new skins will receive this new form as canon for the duration of the event. Therefore, they will be united with one of the two opposing factions, and these champions will become part of the lore related to the Ruination storyline. So far we have six champions gaining new skins, and evidence of more coming as the story progresses. The skins seems to suggest that the story will move and centre around Bilgewater, but this is to be confirmed; this would also tie in with the Ruined King RPG.
The event is all closely related to the next chapter of the plot, which will be unveiled as the weeks go by. The goal is to complete or, at the very least, make big strides through the story which began with Lucian, Senna and Viego in the Ruination cinematic. We know that there will be important developments, but we're not exactly sure what will happen.
For now, Sentinels of Light is a large event and should matter more than the smaller, unconfirmed parts. Although we know we'll have big news coming, there could still be more twists to come over the next few weeks.
What About Norra?
One of the unknowns is the supposed launch of Norra — information we have come by through reliable leaks. We do know that the next champion will be a magical Yordle and will follow Akshan in the chain of releases. However, Riot Games have discussed the possibility that they are an "early" Champion and that the full weight of their arrival will appear in the plot before they hit Summoner's Rift.
The Release of Ruined King: A League of Legends Story
The other big question of the event is not exactly related to the MOBA, but of the promised RPG Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, a single-player game which is based on the Ruined King story. For now, Riot Games not provided new information about its launch. However, it makes sense that the release for both consoles and PC will coincide with the upcoming events.
We will keep you updated on news of the Sentinels of Light event.
